New Website for Pregnancy Rights in Quebec
We are excited to announce the launch of a new website, rightsandpregnancy.ca, dedicated to explaining the main rights related to pregnancy in Quebec. Created in collaboration with ASPQ, the Regroupement Naissances Respectées (RNR), and the Mouvement pour l’autonomie dans l’enfantement, this resource helps pregnant individuals learn about their rights and find aid and resources in an easy and accessible way. The website offers a comprehensive array of resources in partnership with other community organizations supporting Indigenous people, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and other underrepresented communities. With this new tool, pregnant women will be better informed about their rights and available resources.
The new site rightsandpregnancy.ca includes a directory of around thirty pregnancy-related rights, complete with real-life examples and guidance on asserting these rights if they are violated. “Knowing and remembering these essential rights is also a way of protecting them because they are never definitively acquired,” says Maude Dubois Mercier, nurse and project manager at the Association pour la santé publique du Québec (ASPQ).
Petition: Support for Birthing Room in Mont-Tremblant
The Centre de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de Mont-Tremblant, located in the Laurentians region, is planning two offices for midwives to monitor pregnancy in its new CLSC. However, the facility lacks a birthing room for comprehensive follow-up, meaning families in the northern Laurentians with midwifery follow-ups still need to travel to Blainville for childbirth.
A Facebook page has been created to gather support for constructing a birthing room in the new CLSC de Mont-Tremblant. We invite you to support this mobilization by signing the petition using this link. This mobilization is co-organized by CRP la Mèreveille, the citizens of the Upper Laurentians, and the Maison de naissance du boisé de Blainville, which will manage the service in Mont-Tremblant. It is also supported by the Mouvement pour l’autonomie dans l’enfantement and the Coalition pour la pratique sage-femme.
